How to Make Sugar-Free Apple Pie with Dates

Apple-Date Pie Sweetened with Raw Date Syrup

Autumn is here, the air is crisp, the leaves are slowly turning brown, and the cozy season calls for warm, comforting treats. This Apple-Date Pie captures all the flavors of fall; sweet, spiced apples paired with rich, caramel-like dates, naturally sweetened with raw date syrup. It’s a comforting, yet nourishing dessert, perfect for sharing with family or enjoying on a quiet afternoon with a cup of tea or coffee.

Benefits of This Apple-Date Pie

  • Naturally sweetened without refined sugar
  • Rich, comforting flavors ideal for autumn
  • Made with simple, whole ingredients
  • A wholesome, satisfying treat that balances indulgence and nutrition

Ingredients

Apple Filling:

  • 5–6 apples, washed and chopped
  • 2–3 heaping teaspoons raw date syrup
  • 10–12 chopped dates
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon (or to taste)
  • Juice of ½ lemon

Dough Topping:

  • 160 g Spelt Flour
  • 100 g butter
  • 100 g raw date syrup
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

1. Prepare the apple filling

Wash and chop the apples, then place them in a bowl. Add the lemon juice and stir well to prevent browning. Mix in the raw date syrup, cinnamon, and chopped dates until evenly combined.

2. Make the dough topping

In a separate bowl, combine the flour with the butter, pinch of salt, and raw date syrup. Knead lightly by hand until a smooth dough forms.

3. Assemble the pie

Transfer the apple mixture into a bake-safe dish, spreading it evenly. Carefully cover with the dough, pressing gently to seal the top.

4. Bake

Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Bake for 20–30 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and fragrant.

5. Serve

Slice and enjoy warm with a scoop of yogurt. Drizzle both the pie and yogurt with additional raw date syrup for extra sweetness and autumnal richness.
